The
Cuirassier's Habit-Surtout, or uniform
jacket, has short tails with mock turnbacks.
It is single breasted, Imperial Blue wool with collar,
cuff flaps and mock turnbacks in scarlet, which is the
distinctive color for the 3eme. There is an appliqué of an
exploding grenade in navy on each turnback.
The tails on the Habit Surtout Model 1809 are mid thigh length, however,
prior to the Russian Campaign, the 3eme Regiment made a regimental modification
to shorten the surtout so it would not ride up when in the saddle.
